Do not keep to yourself
the secret of your heart, my friend!
Say it to me, only to me, in secret.
You who smile so gently, softly, whisper, my heart will hear it, not my
ears.
The night is deep,
the house is silent,
the birds' nests are shrouded with
sleep.
Speak to me through hesitating tears, through faltering smiles, through shame
and pain, the secret of your heart!

Metaphor:
- deaf: someone's disadvantages, inferior to the others.
- the brocken violin: obtacles, difficullities we may have to face in our lives.
- the other contestant: the rivals or someone who don't want you to succeed.
- the contest: the dreams, the goals we are burning to archieve.
Message: Though the life is not easy, do not get rid of what we are pursuing.

Rhetorical devices:
Metaphor: accident victim: someome who has serious troubles

people around: society
ambulance: who help that person to escape that bad situation.
Irony: The fact that a lot of people gather around the victim without any intention to help him obstructs the ambulance.
Message: Most people choose to stand still and watch and criticize while someone face to their own troubles. Why don't they give them a hand or go away instead of obstructing the other's help.
It's my point after reading your entry: your items have well documents with source and clear structure. It's not difficult for me to understand them. You've listed all the rhetorical devices and your messages are easy to understand. Good job!
ReplyDeleteHello Quynh, I want to give some comments on your entry. It's excellent in my viewpoint. You also pointed out the rehtorical devices. I do like the item 2 and 3 of your entry. I watched the this clip long before, and although it's for advertising purpose, my friend, i must say it gives a meaningful message to all of us: never give up and purchase your dream. And the item 3 is about the matter which makes me sad a lot: the ignorance of people. You did point out the right message conveyed through the picture and that's great!

firstly, all your items meet the entry's requirements as they include the poem/video/picture, rhetorical devices as well as messages.
about each item:
1. item 1: it's well prepared and i think you pointed out almost all the rhetorical devices. the message is also clear and easy to understand.
2. item 2: in my opinion, this is an interesting video clip to watch since its meassage is meaningful. the short video did convey an touching story about chasing dreams inspite of obstacles.
3. item 3: this picture did a good job on making me think a lot about an ugly truth. this is really practical since we see a lot situations like this (especially in vietnam). moreover, i think you should add some details in the irony devices : these people not only gather around without any intention to help, but they are also preventing some people from helping this unlucky guy.
overall, i think your entry is great and interesting !
