· Analysis:
+ the picture above is captured from a piece of news which shows
that Nam Dinh provincial authorities do not employ private school bachelors
for their agencies. (discrimination)
+ the headline mentions that Nam Dinh provincial authorities's policy is to improve the administrative system. They suppose that private school bachelors can not enhance the quality (prejudice)
Item 2: picture:
Type of bias: discrimination.
Analysis:
+ The picture illustrates a woman who is rejected in an interview because she is "simply not the right man for the job".
+ The interviewer looks pleased and comfortable like he is used to this situation.
+ He uses the word "man" instead of "woman" or "person"
=> Overall, there is sex discrimination here (women are not considered suitable for the job)

analysis:
+ some women are talking about the problem that the black maid used the same bathroom with white people.
+ they think that black maids bring deseases and bacteria to their family and they have to protect themselves. (prejudice)
+ The white woman mentions a new law that black maids/nannies had to use a separate bathroom or an out-house (discrimination)
Hello Van! I would like to leave some comments on your entry 3 after reading it:
ReplyDelete- Item 1: Personally, I think the type of bias here should be “Discrimination” only.
You can see that Nam Dinh provincial authorities have a negative feeling, judgment about private school bachelors (cannot enhance the administrative apparatus); hence, they do not employ private school bachelors. Therefore, the type of bias here is discrimination (As you may know, discrimination is prejudice in action).
- Item 2: I totally agree with you on the type of bias and your analysis as well.
- Item 3: From my point of view, I think the type of bias in this video is “discrimination” only.
The white women have a negative opinion about the black maids (bring deseases and bacteria to their family) and they require that every house of white people must have a separate bathroom for the black maids. As I have said in item 1, discrimination is prejudice in action. So, it’s the reason why the type of bias is discrimination in this case.
In general, you did a good job. Keep practicing. Hope you do better in the next entry.
