ENTRY 4-_TRAN THI KIM DUNG

 ITEM 1
Sếp hỏi nhân viên:

- Anh có vợ rồi hả?

- Báo cáo sếp, đúng vậy!

- Nói láo! Tui đã cho người kiểm tra và thấy trong túi anh có tiền.

 Analysis:

premise 1 (hidden): Men who have wives have no money on them
premise 2:               The employee has money in his pocket
 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion:                              He doesn’t have wife

Fallacies: the first premise is false. In fact, there are lots of husbands having money on them. They use it, for example, to pay for their travelling costs or some private purposes.

ITEM 2

A woman washaving some trouble with her heart, so she went to see the doctor. He was a newdoctor, and did not know her, so he first asked some questions, and one of themwas "How old are you?"
"Well," she answered, "I don'tremember, doctor, but I will try to think". She thought for a minute andthen said, "Yes, I remember now, doctor! When I married, I was eighteenyears old, and my husband was thirty. Now my husband is sixty, I know; and that is twice thirty. So I am twice eighteen. That is thirty-six, isn't it?

 Analysis:

Premise 1: When I married, I was eighteenyears old, and my husband was thirty
Premise 2: Now my husband is twice thirty
-------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion: Now I am twice eighteen

Fallacies: the inference is false because to double thirty it needs thirty more, but to double eighteen it only needs eighteen more. Therefore, many years ago the wife’s age was twice as much as her age was when she married. Now her age should be : eighteen + thirty = forty-eight

ITEM 3

Beggar
"Why do you beg?”
“The truth is I beg to get money for booze (drink).”
“Why do you drink?”
“To give me the courage to beg”.

Fallacies: (arguing in a circle) A because B; B because A:
beg to get money for drink, and drink to have courage to beg
