Item 1: Picture
Type of bias: discrimination
Analysis:
-
The picture shows a situation in a office where
a man and a woman are talking about sex discrimination
-
The man seems so innocent when he asks the woman:
“Sex discrimination? What are you talking about?” It is likely that there’s no sex
discrimination in his mind.
-
However, in the picture, the man sits on a chair
but the woman has to sit on the floor
=>Sex discrimination is
available although it’s not spoken out.
Item 2: Picture:
Type of bias: Stereotype
Analysis: In the picture, the painter/writer assumes that
British people:
-
Live in the past
-
Don’t care what people think
-
Are different people when the sun out
-
Are not bothered about a bit of dust
-
Never refuse a drink
-
Don’t speak a foreign language
-
Are lost without their dogs
-
Wouldn’t live anywhere else
However, the painter/writer doesn’t consider specific
situations, when there are some British who live in another country or speak
another language (like French or Spanish), etc.
Item 3: A piece of news
Type of bias: Prejudice
Analysis: The writer considered the Foreign Trade University’s
students arrogant. Even when the writer didn’t say that every student in FTU
has that arrogance, the writing itself implied a negative view point in FTU
students. Why not another university?
Hello Trang,
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, your entry is quite exciting in general. But in Item 2, Stereotype is not clear enough. I think you should explain more so that everyone can understand easier.
